One Day The Vase Will Break

Written by  | 15th November 2011

VaseYou know, I have noticed an 'oh poor me' trend running through the people for whom I read at the moment. I don't know whether it is the approaching winter; or if it is just an overall dissatisfaction due to political issues, financial uncertainty, or loneliness. Whatever it is, it saddens me.

There is a Buddhist concept that, when we buy a new vase, we know that one day the vase will break. Therefore, we should never take that vase for granted, but cherish it always. Appreciate the way it sparkles in the light. Appreciate the way that it cradles beautiful flowers, so that we may bring into our homes their beauty and scent. We need to appreciate that vase for everything that it is, from the moment we first see it, from the moment that it first captivates us with its simple beauty, for one day, the vase will break.

I know some of you have a reading from me and you think I don't understand you. You may think that I'm just telling you to get a grip on life, and that I don't really care about you or the situation. I tell you this in all honesty, though. For every one of you for whom I read, I light a candle and say a prayer. You are in my thoughts for that day, and I pray that somehow your eyes may be opened to the beauty and the blessings which are in each of your lives, that in some way your vase may be full of beauty.

I pray that all your days are beautiful. My eyes cry with you, in both delight, and sorrow, for both are human experiences meant to be felt. May the vase always be shiny and bright, may you have many days filled with your loved ones until the time when the vase breaks, and may the memories of that beautiful vase brighten your heart always.

Brightest of blessings.

We all carry an inner child within us -- the part that remembers joy, fear, hurt, and wonder. It's the part of us that craves protection from all things bad and scary.
