Why I Skip New Year's Resolutions And Manifest My Dreams Instead

Written by  | 2nd January 2025

As the year comes to a close, many of us feel the pull to write down our New Year’s resolutions—a tradition often accompanied by a mix of hope and dread. Despite good intentions, it's no secret that most people abandon these commitments within the first week of January. The pressure to force life-altering changes immediately after the holidays can feel overwhelming, and for many, unsustainable.

For me, I’ve always felt guided to approach this differently. Instead of diving headfirst into the January 1st tradition, I’ve found that waiting until early February feels much more aligned. There’s a certain energy in February—perhaps tied to the natural rhythms of the Earth. It’s a time when the flowers are beginning to prepare for their grand entrance, subtly hinting that transformation thrives in its own time. For me, it’s a season that feels right for moving house, traveling, or making other significant life changes.

Even the Chinese New Year, which often falls later than our Gregorian calendar celebration, offers a reminder that timing is everything. Perhaps there's wisdom in waiting—allowing the rush of the holiday season to fade and giving ourselves the space to reflect and regroup before committing to any grand shifts.

The Power of Manifestation

While I don’t fully embrace the New Year’s resolution frenzy, I do lean into the practice of manifestation during this transitional time. Each year, I dedicate a page of A4 paper to my dreams and intentions for the year ahead. I write things like, “I want to meet someone new,” “I want a holiday home,” or “I want more financial abundance.”

Recently, I revisited my manifesting list from the start of 2024 and was amazed to see how much had come to fruition. Nearly all the things I had written down had materialized into my reality.

For me, the act of writing these intentions is powerful. There’s something transformative about putting pen to paper—it solidifies your dreams and sends them out into the universe. I also find that combining this practice with visualization—what I call daydream manifesting—amplifies the results. I take time to vividly imagine my dream life in as much detail as possible, feeling the emotions of joy and gratitude as if it’s already happening.

Equally important is the state of being you’re in while manifesting. I find that entering a relaxed and meditative space makes all the difference. When your mind is calm, and your energy is open, your intentions flow freely and align with the frequency of creation.

This coming year, instead of rushing to force resolutions on January 1st, consider giving yourself the grace to wait. Allow the energy of the season to guide you, and when the time feels right, embrace the art of manifesting. Whether you write down your dreams, visualize them, or meditate on them, trust that the universe is listening—and your intentions have the power to shape your reality.

Here’s to stepping into 2025 with clarity, ease, and a heart full of possibility.
