Being a medium is a beautiful gift, but with every gift comes responsibility. There is a saying that many of us have heard before: “With great power comes great responsibility.” For me, this is something that sits at the heart of mediumship. It is not just about receiving messages from spirit; it is about understanding the trust that people place in you when they open their hearts and share their loved ones, their memories, and sometimes their deepest pain.
When someone comes to a medium, they are often carrying emotions that are very personal. They may be grieving, searching for reassurance, or hoping for a connection that brings comfort and healing. As a medium, you have a duty to respect that vulnerability. You are not there to take advantage of someone’s emotions; you are there to serve with honesty, compassion, and integrity. Safeguarding people should always be at the centre of what we do.
A medium must remember that the person sitting in front of them is not just a name on a list or a reading on a schedule—they are a human being with their own story, feelings, and experiences. The responsibility is to create a safe space where people feel respected, listened to, and cared for.
Mediumship is not about creating fear or making people dependent on a medium. It is about empowerment. A genuine connection should leave someone feeling stronger, comforted, and reminded that love continues beyond physical separation. The role of a medium is to bring evidence, compassion, and healing—not to control someone’s decisions or influence their life choices.
There is also a responsibility to the spirit world. When we work with spirit, we should approach that connection with humility and respect. It is a privilege to be able to bring forward messages, memories, and evidence that can help someone feel close to their loved one again. This privilege should never be taken for granted. A medium must continue learning, developing, and understanding the importance of their own energy. Personal growth, self-awareness, and good boundaries are essential. We must look after ourselves so that we can continue supporting others in the best way possible.
One of the greatest responsibilities of a medium is knowing when to speak and when to listen. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can offer someone is not just a message, but a moment where they feel seen, understood, and supported. Every word matters. Every interaction matters.
For me, being a medium is not about being above anyone else. It is about being of service. It is about walking alongside people during some of their most emotional moments and reminding them that love never truly disappears. With great power comes great responsibility, and that responsibility is to always lead with love, honesty, compassion, and respect. The greatest gift a medium can offer is not just the connection itself—it is the care and integrity that surrounds it.
