A Halloween Tale: He Just Wanted To Be Seen

Written by  | 31st October 2025

It was late October. The kind of evening where the air feels thin and the quiet settles early. I’d just come off a long shift and considered rescheduling, but something told me to hold the space. I lit a candle, grounded, and prepared the room.

She arrived on time. Mid-sixties, well put together, but her energy was hushed. Not withdrawn, more like someone who’d been carrying something for years and had grown used to the weight. She asked about grief. I nodded, invited her to breathe, and began.

The cards felt slow. Not resistant, just deliberate. I’ve read long enough to notice when something’s moving beneath the surface. The first card was The Moon. Then Six of Cups, reversed. Then The Tower. I paused. I’ve seen these cards before, but rarely together, and never with that kind of presence.

She leaned forward. “He never said goodbye.” I asked who she meant. She didn’t answer. Just watched the candle, which had begun to flicker erratically. I reshuffled. Same cards. Again. I switched decks. Same cards. I’ve never had that happen before, not with that kind of precision.

The room grew cold. Not uncomfortable, but noticeable. I checked the windows. Closed. No draft. She smiled faintly. “He’s here,” she said. I closed the reading gently. Offered her tea, grounding, space to sit. She declined. “He just wanted to be seen,” she said, and left.

After she left, I cleared the energies in the room and reset the space. I went to check her booking details, no email, no payment, no trace. I searched my records. Nothing.

I’ve held space for hundreds of clients. I don’t chase mystery, but I respect it when it arrives. That reading wasn’t frightening. It was reverent. Like I’d been asked to witness something unfinished.

Some readings end when the cards are gathered. Others stay with you. That October, I learned that some stories don’t seek closure, only recognition.
