The Moon In Tarot

Written by  | 7th December 2015

The Moon is a card relating to mysteries, hidden agendas, possible deception, generally things not being as they seem. The man who is a werewolf at full moon, the dreams that have another meaning when we wake up, how everything looks different in moonlight compared to during the day under the light of the sun.

The moon encourages you to question what you think you already know, to use your intuition, listen to the voice in your head, your instincts, your gut feelings. You probably already know the real answers deep down inside.

The Moon shows things in a different way, under a different light. Two people can observe the same situation but relate it back completely differently. Which one is right? Both or neither? The answer is likely to be somewhere in the middle, a bit of both. It's like the difference when looking at something in the dark or the light. It's the same place, and the same items are there, but how we see and perceive them can be different. Also, carrying on in this direction, it's like not judging a book by it's cover, or people by how they dress. You need to delve deeper to truly understand what's going on. Find out more information about a situation, get to know a person better, find out all the facts before acting or making a decision. Appearances can be deceiving.

The moon is related to rhythms and cycles. The monthly cycle of the moon happens whether we notice it or not. Things end, things start, there's the "quiet bit" in the middle that we don't take much notice of but is still important to the end result. This can relate to our lives. Whatever part of the cycle we're in at the moment will be changing soon. No-one will be stuck in the same position for ever. We're in a constant state of flux and change. What we do today will have an effect on what happens next week or next year.

Weighing up the options is a good choice of phrase here. Do you stick with what you know, or do you try out new, possibly dangerous, certainly exciting, endeavours?

"Better the devil you know" will see you staying where you are, but is this the right choice for you? Are you scared to try new things, or do you think the sensible option is the safest and best at the moment for you?

Only you know the right answer here, but it is always worth considering the options, even if you end up back where you started. At least them you'll be certain that you have made the right choice and know that you are content with how things are.

The future isn't set in stone. If you don't like the direction you're heading in? Change it. Make one small change now, and this will be magnified in the greater scheme of things, like The Butterfly Effect. Decide where you want to be in the future and make small steps heading towards that direction today. It seems too daunting a task? Break it down into smaller pieces that you can cope with or rationalise better. Be who you want to be.

We all carry an inner child within us -- the part that remembers joy, fear, hurt, and wonder. It's the part of us that craves protection from all things bad and scary.
