Leaving It Behind

Written by  | 30th January 2016

Whether it's a situation, a person, a goal, an activity, or even thoughts that you may have, every so often it is time to turn your back on something or someone in your life and walk away. You may not know where you're walking to, all you may know is that something in your life is not working out for you and you need to leave it behind.

It could be a job, a relationship, a creative endeavour, or even your mindset. What will be apparent is that this is something that was important to you, and still is, but your life has changed and it no longer serves you well; you don't benefit from it any more and it may well be affecting you in a negative way. Life is full of cycles, and it could be that one has come to an end.

It is common to feel a failure when you admit something doesn't work for you any more, but instead you should look at the lessons you have learned and experiences you have had. It isn't good for you to continue walking a path that harms you, or at the very least has stopped adding value to your life in any way. It is sensible to re-evaluate your life to check if you're happy with the way things are going. If you're not, this is a wake up call to help you get back on track again. We're taught to hold tight onto what we have so it can be hard to let go, but every now and again we need to loosen our grip. We've all been in the situation where we could have used the expression "better the devil you know" and stayed in a bad situation rather than stepping out into the unknown. How many times have we then looked back and wished we hadn't stayed with "the devil"?

Leaving is not a rejection of our past experiences, but a new start and embracing a new situation. Moving on can mean we have learned all that we need from our past situation, and now it is time to find new experiences to learn from. Whatever moving on from the past, means to you, it is likely be an emotional time, but if you know in your heart of hearts that this is something you need to do it'll be worth it in the long run.
