February is the second month of the year and this year is a Leap Year, meaning this month has 29 days instead of 28. This extra day only occurs once every four years, so let’s take that as being a leap of faith for this coming month. The word February comes from the Latin word Februa, the feast of purification.
The main feast of February is Valentine’s Day on the 14th February. It’s the day to celebrate love, romance and devotion to another person where cards and little tokens of affection are given to someone you love. The feast is in honour of Saint Valentine, a third century roman saint associated with love and marriage.
The birth stone for the month of February is the purple stone of Amethyst. The flower of this month is Violet and the Zodiac signs are Aquarius and Pisces.
