Meet December's Spirit Helpers

We're coming into the winter months now. We know that each time period has a zodiac that rules it, but did you know that it also has an animal, a stone, and a plant?

Grizzly BearCurrently we are in the astrological sign of Sagittarius. According to some Native American teachings, this period is the last moon of the West of the Medicine Wheel. This season - autumn - is ruled by the Grizzly Bear. This mighty bear is the guardian of the Medicine Wheel, and he teaches us introspection, and brings us healing. The Grizzly does not just sleep when he hibernates; he dreams, and in his dreams he seeks where to find the most succulent salmon in the spring, or where the herbs and berries to heal can be found should he fall sick.

ElkElk is the Totem Animal for this particular time. From the Elk, we learn stamina, and the power that comes from diligence and determination. He teaches us to look at the bigger picture, and to be in things for the long haul rather than a quick fix. He also teaches us the camaraderie of same gender friendships. If you are male, the time between now and Christmas is a great time to get together with they guys for a bit of footie or a lads' night out. If you are female, it’s an ideal opportunity for a seasonal shopping spree, coffee morning, or weekend out on the town.

Snowflake ObsidianThe stone for this period is the beautiful snowflake obsidian. This stone is shiny black when polished, with white inclusions that look like snowflakes. It's not surprising that this is the stone for the month when snow can return to us! Snowflake obsidian helps to balance the mind with the spirit. It helps to calm and soothe, and open the door to welcome positive changes. Carrying one with you, or wearing it as a piece of jewellery, can help to purge negativity from your energies and attract positive energy to you.

SpruceSpruce is the plant associated with the last moon of the West of the Medicine Wheel, and it is hardly surprising that most of us will decorate the house with some kind of an evergreen during this time! Spruce trees release that wonderful aroma, but in that smell there are tiny microbes that actually help purify the air. Spruce invigorates on all levels; mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional.

If you would like to know what animal spirit guides you may have and how they relate to your particular situations, or what stones or herbs to carry to help you move forward in a positive way, please don't hesitate to contact me for an in-depth look at this. Until next time, may you have the very best of days!
