Temperance: What Does It Mean?

The Temperance card is associated with the Sun Sign Sagittarius and can show up with a multitude of meanings in a reading.  It can represent someone who is a Sagittarius (November 21 – December 21) which is pretty straight forward.  Temperance is usually shown as an angel pouring one cup into another.  The angel is watching over and creating with the cups. So this card can have some protection value.  This card is one of moderation and harmony or coming to a resolution.

Because of the presence of the pouring cups, for some people Temperance can also represent bodily fluids of all kinds. It can show up in a reading portraying a physical relationship and the exchange of bodily fluids.  Temperance can be associated with chemical imbalances in the blood, for example sugar levels, or emotional imbalances pertaining to blood, such as intoxication. In a reading a lot of what the meaning is related to the other cards and the feelings the reader connects to the Temperance card. 

Personally, I feel a light and easy feeling when I look at Temperance.  Maybe it is the Angel walking on air and the presence of water and light and flowers, but I feel it is definitely an uplifting card to draw from the Tarot Deck.

I believe in the saying “A picture is worth a thousand words” and when it comes to the Temperance card, that’s really true. What do you think?
