Standing Up For Yourself.
Day to day most of us probably tend to blend in with our surroundings; we're not easily seen by those who don't know us, unless we want to be. We know what we're doing, hopefully, and get on with it without making a fuss, just ticking along as usual. Every so often, though, we see something that grabs our attention and makes us react in a way that we do need to make ourselves noticed or heard. If there is an issue we feel strongly about should we sit around hoping it'll go away, or should we be in the thick of it, standing up for justice?
So, what do we do if there is something that needs our attention? Has an injustice been done, do we need to stand up for ourselves or for someone else? To start with, after observing what's been going on, collect together all the facts and see if this is an issue that needs to be taken further. The rights we have by law today have been hard fought for by our ancestors. If no-one ever stands up for what's right, then we won't be able to make any progress.
Sometimes a matter is only small and you will need to decide whether to take action this time or not. Is it better to keep quiet than to make waves? Sometimes it can be, other times it is important to voice your thoughts. There seem to be more questions than answers here, but that's because there are so many possibilities that could happen, and we all need to make our own decisions and value judgements. Much as it's great being pointed in the right direction or being told what to do, we do have to take responsibility for ourselves and those around us too.
Whatever is happening that makes you stop and think, try not to be hasty with your words and actions. Gather the facts, weigh up the issues and then make your move. Rather than rushing in without the full story, do your research, speak clearly and make your point. Then, at least whatever happens next, you know you've given it your best shot.
