Spirituality, Tarot, and the Gentle Art of Becoming More Positive

Written by  | 13th April 2026

There is something quietly powerful about beginning your day with intention. Not a grand declaration or a rigid plan, but a soft, sacred pause—a moment where you choose how you will meet the world. For many, spirituality is found in these small rituals. And one of the most beautiful tools to support this daily alignment is the Tarot. Often misunderstood as a tool of prediction, Tarot is, at its heart, a mirror. It reflects your inner world, your patterns, your hopes, your fears—and perhaps most importantly, your potential. When approached with openness rather than expectation, Tarot becomes a deeply spiritual companion, guiding you gently toward positivity, awareness, and growth.

The Tarot as a Spiritual Tool The traditional Rider Waite Tarot deck is rich with symbolism, colour, and archetypal imagery. Each card tells a story—not just of events, but of states of being. The Fool speaks of new beginnings and trust. The Star whispers of hope and renewal. Even the more challenging cards, like The Tower or the Five of Pentacles, offer not doom, but insight—an invitation to reflect, rebuild, and rise again. Spirituality is not about avoiding difficulty. It is about how we meet it. Tarot helps us do exactly that. It gives language to the unseen and structure to the intangible. When you draw a card, you are not asking, “What will happen to me?” You are asking, “What energy am I working with today, and how can I meet it in the best possible way?” This shift alone transforms Tarot into a tool of empowerment.

Developing Positivity Through Daily Practice Positivity is not forced optimism. It is not pretending everything is fine when it is not. True positivity is grounded—it is the ability to find light even when shadows are present. Tarot supports this by encouraging awareness rather than avoidance. When you draw a single card each day, you begin to notice patterns. You begin to understand your emotional landscape. And most importantly, you begin to respond rather than react. Imagine drawing the Nine of Swords—a card often associated with worry or anxiety. Instead of fearing the day ahead, you might say: “Today, I am being shown the importance of my thoughts. I will be mindful of where my mind goes, and I will choose compassion for myself.” Now the card has not predicted a difficult day—it has equipped you for it. Likewise, drawing the Sun becomes a reminder to embrace joy, to step outside, to connect, to laugh. It becomes permission to feel good. Over time, this daily practice rewires your relationship with your inner world. You begin to see challenges as guidance. You begin to see yourself as capable. And that is where positivity truly lives.

The Power of Symbolism One of the most magical aspects of the Rider Waite Tarot is its symbolism. Every detail matters. The colours, the direction a figure is facing, the objects they hold—each element carries meaning. Take The Empress, for example. Surrounded by nature, seated comfortably, she represents abundance, nurturing, creativity, and self-worth. Drawing this card may not mean you will suddenly receive something external—it may be a call to nurture yourself, to create, to honour your body and your environment. Or consider the Page of Cups—a youthful figure holding a cup with a fish emerging from it. It is unexpected, playful, and imaginative. This card might encourage you to remain open to surprise, to approach the day with curiosity rather than control. When you engage with Tarot in this way, you are not passively receiving messages—you are actively interpreting them. You are building a relationship with the imagery, allowing it to speak to your intuition. This is where spirituality deepens. Not in rigid meanings, but in personal connection.

A Daily Tarot Practice Creating a daily Tarot practice does not need to be complicated. In fact, the simpler it is, the more powerful it becomes. Each morning, take a moment before the world rushes in. Sit quietly. Take a breath. Shuffle your deck slowly, allowing your mind to settle. When you feel ready, draw a single card. Place it in front of you and ask: “What energy can support me today?” Look at the card. Notice your first impression. How does it make you feel? What stands out? There is no right or wrong answer here. Then, gently explore its meaning. You might use a guidebook, or simply reflect intuitively. Finally, set an intention based on the card. For example: If you draw Strength: “Today, I will meet challenges with calm and compassion.” If you draw the Ace of Pentacles: “Today, I will remain open to new opportunities.” If you draw the Hermit: “Today, I will honour my need for quiet and reflection.” This intention becomes your anchor for the day.

A Simple Exercise with the Rider Waite Deck Here is a powerful yet simple exercise you can begin today. It is designed not only to build your connection with Tarot, but to gently shift your mindset toward positivity.

The Three-Day Reflection Practice Day One – Awareness Draw one card in the morning. Throughout the day, observe how its energy appears in your life. Do not try to control it—just notice. In the evening, write down how the card showed up. This builds awareness. Day Two – Alignment Draw a new card. This time, consciously align your actions with its energy. If you draw the Queen of Cups, practice emotional kindness. If you draw the Eight of Pentacles, focus on dedication and effort. At the end of the day, reflect on how this felt. This builds intention. Day Three – Integration Draw a final card. Now, combine awareness and alignment. Notice the card’s energy, and gently embody it throughout your day. By the evening, reflect not only on what happened, but on how you felt within yourself. This builds integration. Repeat this cycle weekly. Over time, you will notice a shift—not just in your understanding of Tarot, but in your relationship with yourself.

Tarot as a Companion, Not a Crutch It is important to remember that Tarot is not here to make decisions for you. It is here to support you in making your own. Your intuition, your lived experience, your inner wisdom—these are your true guides. Tarot simply helps you access them more clearly. When used with respect and openness, it becomes a sacred companion. A daily conversation between you and something greater—whether you call that Spirit, the Divine, or simply your higher self.

Closing Reflection In a world that often feels rushed and uncertain, the act of drawing a single Tarot card each day is a quiet rebellion. It is a choice to slow down. To listen. To trust. And perhaps most importantly, it is a reminder that positivity is not something you wait for—it is something you cultivate. One card at a time. One day at a time. And in those small, consistent moments of connection, something begins to change. You begin to change. And that, in itself, is the most beautiful reading of all.
