Self-Care: Why is it important?

Self-Care: Why is it Important?

We tend to get so busy in our day-to-day lives that we can forget to take care of ourselves. Self-care is important not just because it encourages us to maintain a healthy relationship with ourselves, but also as it means we can transmit those good feelings to others. You cannot give to others what you don't have yourself!

Some may misconstrue self-care as being selfish, but it's far from it. Taking time out to care for yourself can remind you and others that you and your needs are important too. Practicing self-care does not mean you're choosing yourself over your loved ones; it simply means you are mindful of your own needs.

Here are some examples and tips to help put "You" first:

  1. Make your bed. It only takes two minutes of your time but the feeling of accomplishment lasts all day long! This may sound strange to others, but the benefits of this simple act are amazing.

  1. Write a to-do list, with a difference! Instead of listing the things you need to do, write down the things you have accomplished. This gives you a great feeling of accomplishment.

  1. Go for a walk. Put on your favourite podcast and get some fresh air. This helps you relieve stress and gets you some much needed fresh air.

  1. Grab a book. Grab your favourite book, a glass of wine, light some candles and take a moment to get lost in your imagination! This stimulates your brain and also relaxes you.

With the New Year approaching and the craziness of 2020 soon behind us, I truly hope we learn to put ourselves first.

I really hope you enjoyed reading this today and I hope you take the time to put yourself first.
