Happiness you never seem to stay with me for long
Your visits are so fleeting before I know it you are gone
You;re like a lovely butterfly who perches on a flower
And flies away immediately around the shady bower
Sometimes I find you in the strangest place
Upon a peaceful hillside or at a lovely summer glade
Down by the flowing river or a peaceful summer stream
Or in the arms of a lover who isn't right for me
If I could just hold on to you and never let you go
My life would be so full of joy no pain I'd ever know
But that is just a dream I know that never can come true
Because if I had you all the time I would never value you
