Indeed, some would call it an addiction to wanting to spend and hoping to gain something for nothing. It doesn't matter how much or how little money you have, you always have a tendency to try to buy the friendship of those around you. This is because the Devil deals with our status and reputation and you would like for others to see you as kind as generous, so you often spend far more than you can afford, just to keep face. This is leading to you feeling the pinch where other financial obligations are concerned. You must stop being so generous with money that you simply cannot afford to throw around. It is time to realise that people will like you for who you are and if they don't, they're not worth knowing so stop feeling the obligation of having to buy or provide for everyone and everyone. At first people will notice and maybe they have expected you to look after them, but it is not your duty to go without and embarrass yourself where your financial obligations are concerned, because you are dutifully being the generous friend. You would hate to think that people thought that you were mean but this is your low self esteem but you must look at others and when they do not provide for you what you have provided for them, do you consider them to be mean or do you just accept that they probably can't afford it? Perhaps it makes you feel that you are doing well or are very happy or that it has been your pleasure to provide things for and on behalf of others: but then you take away the freedom for them of stimulating themselves to reach that goal by working hard towards a goal that does provide that. Nobody expects you to look after everybody, so you must take control of the guilty feelings you will indeed experience by holding back and not splashing out and throwing your money around that you really don't have, just to make other people feel better. They will like you for yourself. You must look after your own financial obligations and stop feeling that you must provide for everyone and everything.
