Why I Choose Oracle Cards For Readings

Written by  | 1st May 2025

I have always been drawn to divination, but over time, I’ve found that my heart lies more with oracle cards than tarot. Now, before any tarot lovers come for me, let me be clear—I have nothing against tarot. In fact, I respect it immensely. The tarot system, with its structured meanings and archetypal wisdom, is a powerful tool. But for me, I find myself naturally gravitating toward a different kind of energy when I work, one that is less confined by predefined interpretations and more fluid, intuitive, and personal.

The oracle cards I use are not the kind you typically find on the shelves of commercial bookstores—the ones that come with a booklet explaining each card in detail, often with a paragraph or more of interpretation. Instead, I prefer oracle decks that are purely visual—no words, no pre-written meanings—just images that speak directly to my psychic senses.

Why? Because for me, divination is about tuning into the moment, allowing my own abilities to shape the message rather than relying on a fixed set of definitions. When I look at a card, I don’t want my mind to jump to an assigned meaning; I want to feel it. I want the image to activate my psychic sight, to stir something within me, to let my intuition and the energy of the person I am reading for flow naturally through the experience.

I work through vision and voice vibrations—sensing the frequency of the person and allowing the images to align with their energy. Every reading is different because every person and every situation is unique. Using image-only oracle cards gives me the freedom to work completely freehand, unencumbered by the expectation of what a card is “supposed” to mean.

This is not to say that tarot doesn’t have its own kind of magic—because it absolutely does. There is a beauty in the structure of tarot, in the way the Major and Minor Arcana weave together to tell a story, in the centuries of wisdom encoded in those 78 cards. And for many, that structure is incredibly grounding and powerful. But for me, I feel most connected when I allow the reading to be as fluid as energy itself.

When I use my oracle deck, I trust what I see and feel in the moment. A single image can shift in meaning depending on the person I am reading for. The same card may spark an entirely different vision or message from one reading to the next. This allows me to remain fully present, responding to the nuances of each individual’s energy rather than following a script.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that one method is better than the other—it’s all about what resonates with you. Some people feel empowered by the structure and symbolism of tarot, while others, like myself, find liberation in the openness of image-only oracle decks. The important thing is to find the tool that enhances your connection to your own abilities and allows you to channel messages in the way that feels most natural.

Ultimately, divination is about connection—connection to energy, to intuition, to spirit. Whether through tarot, oracle, runes, or any other method, the magic lies in how we use these tools to bring clarity, insight, and healing. For me, that magic is found in the unspoken language of images, in the quiet whispers of intuition, and in the ever-changing dance of energy that flows through every reading I give.
