Spirit Guides: What Are They?
Many of us are fascinated by the idea that we each have a spirit guide, someone whose task it is to look after us and ensure that we experience what we are supposed to in this lifetime, so that we can learn what we need to grow in the way that is right for us.
It is a comforting thought to know that there is a being in the spirit world whose primary task is our well-being. This can remind us that we are never truly alone and that we have only to ask for help to receive it. There is a principle here it is good to remember: If ‘you don’t ask, you don’t get’.
Some people see spirit guides as those have lived on the Earth Plane before but have now evolved to a level where they no longer need to incarnate physically and have chosen the role of a guide to serve others. Others see them as entirely spiritual beings that have never been on Earth. There are different ideas of just who and what spirit guides are and what they can and cannot do.
It is easy to think that spirit guides are always ancient Chinese monks, Native American Chiefs and so on. Whilst this can be seen as something of a fantasy or a cliché, it is also quite likely that if our guides really are more spiritually evolved than us, their life here on Earth would have reflected this.
Some people say that our guides are beings of energy as they live in a realm that is not physical but made only of energy. As such, the appearance they choose is one that they know will appeal to us and that we would best accept, respect and communicate with honestly and openly.
In order to meet our guides it can be necessary to ‘meet them halfway’. For a guide to descend down through the higher realms to communicate with us has been described as like putting on a series of heavy overcoats for them. So it can make it much easier to meet and communicate with our guides if we can raise our level of vibration.
To meet our guide for the first time can involve a series of meditations so we can become attuned to them and them to us. One technique to do this is to take a ‘guided journey’ in your meditation to a special place or sanctuary, which can be of your own choosing; perhaps a grove in nature or a temple. Once there you can settle and await the coming of your guide. As mentioned, this can take several attempts before your energies are attuned to the same level and you are ready for communication to take place.
Once you have established a connection with your guide, it can be necessary and helpful to maintain a higher level of vibration. This can involve regular meditation, a healthy diet and some kind of exercise. It’s worth the effort, as a close connection with you spirit guides can be so rewarding and comforting and ensures that you have a friend for life.
