One of the best gifts you can give during the holiday season is your time and attention. Everyone is so busy with their careers, friends and family they don’t realize that there are people, people they may know that are becoming depressed and lonely. Many people are feeling more alone and unhappy because they do not have the relationship they want and are seeing others who do and some are mourning losses and the holiday without their loved ones is magnifying their loss. Whatever the case it is very important to try and notice those who may need extra support during this time.
It is hard for many people to realize that not all is well for everyone during this time and the people you think are secure and carefree are really hurting and needing encouragement and acknowledgement during the holidays. Everyone may put on a happy face and underneath there is a sadness that they are hiding. Just a kind word and some quality conversation could help turn around their sadness.
For others, they may not have loved ones to share this family oriented time and are feeling lonely because of what they are missing in their lives. If you know people who are alone, try to include them or reassure them that there is love and happiness all around and that they have a lot to offer and receive when it comes to relationships. They just need to be open to what life is bringing them.
We can all give a gift that is priceless by taking time to be there for those people around us who are not experiencing the best of times, and who need to be uplifted and can be with your kindness and understanding. There is nothing better than making someone smile and laugh and knowing you shed sunlight on a gloomy time in their life. Remember the gifts you give of yourself are the most rewarding and memorable.
