The True Power Of Your Affirmations

I am a passionate public speaker and I feel my favourite audiences are found at my Mind, Body, and Spirit events.

My delivery is always different but at EVERY gig, I say these words:

“If every person on this planet stepped to me and asked me ‘how do I change my life?’ I would tell them this looks entirely different for each person as we are all unique souls, walking our own unique pathway, however, the one thing I would tell every single person on this planet is; affirmations."

Affirmations are life changing. Period. Known as scientific prayer (science in terms of the new neurological pathways being formed and prayer due to the frequency and power that they hold). The words that follow “I am” are the most powerful words in YOUR entire life. Period!

Your thoughts become feelings, your feelings become emotions and your emotions create your actions, which makes up your reality. This energy then loops back around to your thoughts. It’s circular. Everything is energy and everything is circular. So, your thoughts (and entire mindset) are key to your life pathway (growth, successes, love, creation - basically all that is)!

One of my practices is to write myself affirmations on sticky notes and stick them around the house. When I catch sight of one of my notes, I say it out loud. Without any prompting from me, my son sticks his own notes on his bedroom wall. And just as I do, he reads them out loud, over, and over.

I use mirror pens and write quotes on my mirrors each week, and as I mentioned earlier in the book, I write on sticky notes and stick them in places where I will read them the most (usually somewhere near the kettle!). I also write positive affirmations throughout my diary so that I keep reading them each week. I own lots of items that have positive quotes on them (my house is filled with positive wall art, teacups, placemats, notebooks, pens – pretty much anything I can lay my hands on!)

Here are some guidelines for producing effective affirmations:

  • Affirmations start with the words “I am...”
  • Affirmations are positive. Never use the word ‘not’ in an
affirmation. For example, instead of writing “I am not afraid of public speaking” you could write “I am a confident speaker.”
  • Affirmations are short and specific. For example, instead of writing “I am driving a new car” you could write “I am driving a new black Range Rover.”
  • Affirmations are in the present tense.
  • Affirmations have a ‘feeling’ word in them. Examples include “confidently,” “successfully,” or “gracefully.”
  • Affirmations are about yourself.
  • Affirmations should be about your own behaviour, never
    someone else’s.

Affirmations are life changing. When you use them over and over, you will be working towards rewiring your mind. Remember that writing down and then saying affirmations is only part of the process. What you do the rest of the day and night is even more important. The secret to having your affirmations work is to prepare an atmosphere for them to grow in. Each time you say an affirmation, it’s like you are planting a seed in soil. If the soil is poor, there will be no growth. Rich soil, on the other hand will bring abundant growth. So, create the surroundings for your affirmations to thrive. This means thinking thoughts that make you feel good. It’s that simple. The more you do this, the quicker the affirmations work. Live and breathe your affirmations. Visualise them, believe in them and achieve them. It is important to know that only YOU can make them your reality. You make them grow!

Lots of love (and bringing you more) Hope xoxo
